In Spain’s La Liga, the inevitable had a chance to become reality on Wednesday as Real Madrid took to the pitch attempting to wrap up a 32nd domestic title.

Real, carrying a 7 point lead on Barcelona into play with only three games left in the season. Real, pretty much assured of the crown thanks to their win over fierce rivals Barca two weeks ago, but Real still had to get it done and beat mid-table Athletic Bilbao to claim their crown and also deliver coach Jose Mourinho a bit of coaching history.

This one got off to a blistering start in Bilbao as both sides poured on the pressure early in search of the first goal. And Real, would have a brilliant opportunity in the 12th minute as the ref called Javi Martinez for a handball in the area.

That set up Ronaldo from the spot, but his weak effort was turned aside. That miss, a bitter reminder of the Portuguese stars missed spot kick in Real’s Champions League semi-final shootout lossagainst Bayern Munich last week.

But Real, would continue to press and four minutes later, Mesut Ozil picked out Gonzalo Higuain on the edge of the area and the Argentina forward smashed a fabulous shot home for his 22nd league goal.

And Real would only need four more minutes to make it 2-nil. Ronaldo’s superb pass sets up Ozil and the German international sidefoots his finish past the keeper. Bilbao tried to break through the Real defence, but were twice denied by the crossbar.

And a third goal for Real would come five minutes into the second half when Ronaldo was left unmarked at a corner and he nodded home to put this one to bed.

3-nil, would be the final as Real Madrid grabbed their 32nd league champion, while Jose Mourinho becomes the first man to win the league title in four major European nations: Portugal, England, Italy and now Spain.
