Add Stephon Marbury to the long list of athletes to be immortalized for his achievements. But you can also count him as the only American basketball star to have his life-size likeness posted in front of a sports arena in China. A bronze statue of the Beijing Ducks guard was unveiled at the Capital’s Master Card center on Sunday.

The statue received the backing of more than a million online Chinese basketball fans, and it stands outside the gates of the Wukesong Arena in Beijing. Marbury’s teammates attended the event, along with his sister and NBA legend Dennis Rodman.

Marbury led the Ducks to their first national championship in 30 years on March 30 when they beat Guangdong in the Chinese Basketball Association finals. Fans responded to an online poll to build a statue for the New York City native.

Marbury put up MVP-caliber numbers in the CBA finals, averaging 33.4 points, 6.2 assists and four rebounds a night in the five-game series. The former Knicks guard failed to win a NBA championship, but he made his dream of winning a title in China come true.
