Serbia beats China 3-0 at FIVB Olympic Qualification Tournament

China's men's volleyball team faced Serbia in the FIVB Olympic qualifier on Tuesday with eight squads fighting for two remaining spots at the London Games. China was hoping to avoid a second straight loss at the tournament in their match against the reigning European champions.

With young players featured in the starting line-up, China's coach Zhou Jian’an knew it would be a tough game against Serbia.

The tournament leaders took advantage of their strong serves, which China found hard to handle. Serbia cruised to a 7-point lead midway through the opening set.

China appeared badly organized in attack with more errors coming. Serbia easily took the first set 25-15.

Serbia leapt out to a 9-point lead early in the second set. But China were determined to pull it back and make the most of their international experience.

But Serbia proved to be tough opponents, tremendously strong in their service game. They won the second set 25-13. So, down two sets, China was up against it.

The Serbians opened well in the third set. But Zhong Weijun brought China within three.

Zhou’s side kept pressing with Zhang Chen with an impressive power smash. China trailed 16-14 and seemed to be gaining ground.

China drew to within one late in the game but Serbia stages a run to lead 24-21, and were on match point. China remained determined to the end but, the European giants claimed it 25-21, for a straight sets victory. China lies fourth with four points from three matches.
