With a month to go till the Olympics, London looks ready to host the "greatest show on earth". Venue construction is almost complete, with only a few temporary structures still needing to be finished, plus a few final test events, but otherwise it looks like all systems go for the British capital.

Olympics organizers are pleased that nearly all of the venues and infrastructure are complete, as London has avoided construction problems that have hit other host cities in the past. More than 30 venues throughout the United Kingdom will host events. Many iconic locations are being prepared for Olympic sports. The 500 million pound ($807.92 million) main stadium is at the centre of the Olympic Park in a formerly rundown part of east London. It was built on an 'island’ site, surrounded by waterways on three sides. The stadium has a capacity of 80,000 and will host the opening and closing ceremonies as well as the athletics events.

has confirmed he intends to compete at the London Olympics.

The aquatics centre forms the gateway to the Olympic Park. Among the venues away from the Olympic Park being used are Wimbledon, which will host the tennis competition, Wembley Stadium for soccer and Lord’s cricket ground for archery. The formal surroundings of Horse Guards Parade, normally used for ceremonial events like Trooping the Colour before the Queen, will be transformed into a beach volleyball arena. Greenwich Park will host equestrian sports and central London's Hyde Park for triathlon and marathon swimming. The Excel centre is the largest competition venue at the Games and will host boxing, table tennis, judo, fencing, wrestling, taekwondo and wrestling. The north Greenwich arena, also known as the O2 Arena, will host artistic and trampoline gymnastics, as well as some basketball matches.
