On Tuesday the Olympic Torch relay travelled from Coventry to Leicester on day 46 of its journey across Great Britain.

In Coventry, two children breached the security cordon and tried to snatch the Olympic flame from a torchbearer. Two boys dressed in black managed to avoid security and attempted to grab the torch, before they were ushered away by police. Later in an unusual start, the torch was flown into the air by jet pack at the city's National Space Centre. It then travelled through Leicester. Then the flame was on board the Great Central Railway to move onwards to Loughborough and the base camp for Team GB. It was then a meander through Hoton, Wymeswold, Ashfordby and onto the traditional home of the pork pie, Melton Mowbray.

Work commenced on the dedicated road lanes that will enable Olympic athletes and VIPs to avoid traffic congestion in the British capital during the Games. Workers began marking out the dedicated lanes and will also start making adjustments to traffic lights. Most of the lanes, which are marked with the Olympic Rings, will begin full operation on Wednesday July 25th, two days before the Games' opening ceremony.
