Brazil has selected the squad that will attempt to bring home the football-mad nations first ever Olympic Gold Medal. Head coach Mano Menezesannounced on Thursday, the team that will represent Brazil in London.

Porto striker Hulk, AC Milan’s centre back Thiago Silva and Real Madrid left back Marcelo were selected as the three permitted over-age players.

The additions of Silva and Marcelo, expected to shore up the Brazilian backline after defeats in internationals warmups last month against Mexico and Argentina highlighted Brazil’s problem in finding solid defensive players under 23 years old. Up front, 20-year old Santos striker Neymar stands out as the 18-man squad’s ace in the hole.

Jose Maria Morin, president of Brazil Football Confederation, said, "I am very confident and am almost certain that this title which we have been seeking for many years and which Brazil still doesn’t have, will be achieved thanks to the hard work and unity of all."
