Football fans here in China will want to mark August 11th on their calenders as the 11th of August is the date for the 2012 edition of the Italian Super Cup. The kick-off to the Italian season will be staged at the National Stadium here in Beijing.

The match will see Serie A champions Juventus take on Italian Cup winners Napoli. The 2011-12 Serie A title was Juventus’s first domestic league championship victory since 2002-03, while the Italian Cup trophy was the first silverware for Napoli in over 20 years.

Napoli beat Juventus 2-0 in the Italian Cup final - and shattered the "Old Lady's" hopes of a domestic double. It is the second straight year that the opening match of the Italian season will be held in the iconic Bird’s Nest venue in China.

Fabio Santoro, Serie A Marketing Director, said, "We are bringing the two most successful clubs in Italy to China. Juventus are the league winners while Napoli are the domestic cup winners. It makes the match in Beijing more interesting because the teams faced each other earlier in the Italian Cup final. So both teams will be really eager to win in Beijing. It will make it a fun match to watch."
