The longest and final distance leg of the Tour of Qinghai Lake greeted the field on Wednesday as the Tour’s penultimate stage 12 took the riders on a 220 kilometre ride from Zhongwei, Ningxia province to Baiyin, Gansu province.

This is the final road stage before the event comes to a close with a circuit race at Lanzhou. Wednesday’s trek was long, but not all that demanding...and the day’s main breakaway occurred 20 kilometers from the start, with 11 riders in the group.

Although most of the field managed the day well, there was a little trouble 30 kilometres from the finish line as a pack of riders went down. The best on the day, was Italian Andrea Guardini as he took the stage in a time of 5 hours, 26 minutes and 26 seconds. It was his 3rd stage victory on the tour.

But once again, no change at the top as Hossein Alizadeh of Iran’s Tabriz Petrochemical Team remains in control of the overall leader’s yellow jersey.
