South Korea aims to collect 10 gold medals in London Olympics

07-12-2012 15:52 BJT

South Korea’s goal is to collect 10 gold medals in London, which could place the nation in the top ten in the standings. The country’s Olympic National team gathered in Seoul on Wednesday, pledging to do its best to meet the standard.

The South Korean Olympic team is full of enthusiasm as they prepare to make their way to London.

The squad has a goal of grabbing ten gold medals and finishing inside the top 10 in the standings.

Those are achievable goals as the nation has ranked in the top 10 in the past six Summer Olympics. At the last Games in Beijing in 2008, they ranked seventh, taking home 13 gold, 10 silver and 8 bronze medals.

Lee Kee-Heung, President of National Sports Festival Commission, said, "As we hold this ceremony, we’re officially counting down to the Olympics. Our athletes will leave for London on July 20th and I hope they show their best to achieve their goals."

Former world number one archer, Im Dong-hyun will aim for a rare feat in London, trying to capture a hat-trick of gold medals.

Im Dong-Hyun, South Korean Archer, said, "I need to get used to the local environment and time difference as soon as possible. It will be chilly and rainy in London so I’ll prepare for that as well, during the time I have left in Korea. I’ll do my best to achieve three consecutive gold medals and sweep the field."

The country’s 374-member-Olympic delegation will participate in 22 of 26 Olympic events.
