After prolific striker Robin van Persie’s departure, Arsenal started their English Premier League campaign lacking a cutting edge up front in their first game against Sunderland.

Despite Arsenal overwhelming Sunderland, the Gunners couldn’t capitalize on any of their chances. Lukas Podolski struggled for service up front as another new signing, midfielder Santi Cazorla looked to be more of a danger in front of goal.

Arsenal’s new dynamic duo both had clearcut chances, but their efforts were denied by a solid Sunderland defence. Meanwhile...The home side allowed too much space for the visitors, whose sporadic counter-attacks almost gave them a stunning victory.

And after the frustrating goaless draw, Arsenal announced another key player was leaving, with midfielder Alex Song joining Barcelona for 23 and a half million dollars.
