After shelling out around 15 million pounds to get him. Barcelona was signing a happy tune on Monday as they locked down Cameroon midfielder Alex Song to a five-year contract. Song, joining Barca after leaving English Premier League side Arsenal.
Song posed for the traditional photo in front of his new club’s insignia, as he pledges his loyalty to the Spanish club. He is Barcelona’s second signing this summer after defender Jordi Alba, who joined from Valencia after the Euro 2012.
The 24-year-old, who follows Dutch striker Robin van Persie in leaving Arsenal this month, brings cover to the midfield holding role usually occupied by Sergio Busquets. He will join former Arsenal teammate Cesc Fabregas in the team’s midfield for the new season.
The Cameroon international passed a medical examination and met Barcelona President Sandro Rosell, before being offically presented prior to the Joan Gamper Cup. Song didn’t play as Barcelona lost the friendly 1-0 against Serie A side Sampdoria.
The first appearance of the big new addition is expected to come on Thursday when Barca host defending champs Real Madrid in the first leg of the Spanish Supercup.
