Paralympic flame on final part of its journey

The Paralympic torch is on its way to London and to what organizers hope will be the most successful Paralympics in history.

The final leg of the torch's relay sees it travel from Stoke Mandeville, in southern England, to London, where it will signal the start of the games later tonight with an opening ceremony involving 100 children, more than 3,000 adult volunteers and a high-wire act.

The Paralympic torch has been given a mirrored finish so its shines at night
on the final stage of the torch relay.

On Tuesday night four torchbearers came together to ignite the cauldron with the Paralympic flame. Each torch represented each country in the United Kingdom - England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. The games themselves will feature nearly 4,300 disabled athletes from 166 countries. The London Olympic and Paralympic Organizing committee chairman, Sebastien Coe, says many of the Paralympic athletes have become household names around the world.

Lord Sebastian Coe, Chairman, London Paralympic Organizing Committee, said, "Our Paralympians and world Paralympians are now household names in the lives of many young people and that’s what the big change has been and that's why it’s so important the Paralympic Games can keep nudging the story in the right direction."

4 separate Paralympic torches were paraded at Stoke Mandeville stadium, north-west
of London, on Tuesday and then came together to light a single Paralympic flame.
