There are many remarkable stories at these Paralympics, among them is that of Chinese powerlifter Cai Huichao. Cai was born with a form of cerebral palsy and as our Peter Koveos reports, the condition has not hampered him from living out his athletic dream.

Cai Huichao won gold at the 2008 Beijing Paralympics. This year in London he was able to press more than 230-kilos in the men’s 90kg CP category, good enough for a silver medal.

Cai Huichao, Paralympic powerlifting silver medallist, said,"The opponent was more powerful and stronger than me. I’ve done my best today. "

As you can tell by his answer, he is not upset with claiming a silver medal. The powerlifter has conquered incredible ordeals and hardships to achieve his Paralympic dreams.

Cai was born with innate Cerebral Palsy, which hampers his muscles and nervous system from developing.

But he is a strong believer in miracles. Cai did something many thought was "impossible" for an athlete with Cerebral Palsy, by capturing a gold medal at the 2008 Paralympics.

According to his coach, for an athlete with his condition, lifting heavy weights can be extremely dangerous.

Li Weipu, coach from China Paralympic powerlifting team, said,"He is unable to control heavy weights. He can do well with lighter weights. But his brain can lose control of his muscles when he tries to lift extreme weights, which can be dangerous."

Taking potential risks everytime he attempts to lift, Cai never hesitates to challenge his limits. The 29-year-old says he’s determined to continue fighting against the disability and achieve more success in his career.
