Former NBA star Tracy McGrady has officially joined the Chinese Basketball Association after arriving in Qingdao on Wednesday. The two-time NBA scoring champion says he is in shape and ready for the new season.

Nearly a thousand excited fans and hundreds of media were on hand to greet T-Mac at the Qingdao airport Wednesday morning. The throng of people tried to get photos of the former NBA All-Star with their cameras and cell phones.

McGrady was surprised and overwhelmed by the reception of the Chinese fans. Team officials did their best to escort McGrady out of the airport. Later on Wednesday, McGrady attended a ceremony organized by his new team.

Team officials presented him with a special present-- a pair of shoes with McGrady’s family photo on them. And during the CBA season, T-Mac will be wearing the number 9 jersey for his new club.

McGrady will not play during the CBA preseason. But the team will arrange a series of warm-up games in mid-November. The new CBA season is set to begin at the end of November.
