England’s Ian Poulter produced a second successive seven-under-par round of 65 on Sunday to win the WGC HSBC Championship title at Mission Hills in China by two shots.

England’s Lee Westwood shared the lead with Louis Oosthuizen of South Africa heading into the final round. Both men carded their worst rounds of the tournament on Sunday - level-par 72s - and finished tied for sixth place on 18-under-par.

The 2009 HSBC Championship runner-up Ernie Els had a five-under 67 only good enough for a share of second place on 19-under. Also amongst the chasing pack was two-time former champion Phil Mickelson, who had pulled level with the lead but the American bogeyed the 12th after missing a five-footer by an inch, despite starting the round with a birdie putt at the first hole. Mickelson eventually ended up in a tie for second.

Poulter had started the day four shots adrift in a share of fourth place. However, the Europe Ryder Cup hero surged into the lead after birdying four holes on the front nine and then two more after the turn. Back-to-back birdies from the 14th were followed by the only dropped shot of the day at the 17th, but a par putt at the last was enough to see Poulter complete a two-stroke victory, finishing on 21-under-par after a final round 65. It was Poulter’s first win on both the American and European tours this year.

Jason Dufner, Scott Piercy, Ernie Els and Phil Mickelson are tied in 2nd place two shots behind Poulter. While overnight leaders Louis Oosthuizen and Lee Westwood tie for 6th.
