Video: Nets edge Knicks in OT, win NYC Battle

11-27-2012 21:48 BJT

Big Apple bragging rights were on the line on Monday evening in New York City, as the Nets hosted the Knickerbockers in Brooklyn for the first time since the Nets moved to the borough from New Jersey.

This meeting though, coming about a month later than expected, as Hurricane Sandy postponed the scheduled first game between these two in late October. Brooklyn, looking to move level alongside New York for first in the Atlantic with a win.

Early on it was Carmelo Anthony trying to get the Knicks going, but Tyson Chandler cleans up the missed shot. 28 and 14 for the reigning Defensive player of the year.

Melo would find his groove, first blowing by Gerald Wallace for the lay-up to keep the Knicks within a basket.

And then hitting the three - needing all of the rim to do so. Melo had 35, as the Knickerbockers took a two-point lead into the break.

Brooklyn was led by their own star. Deron Williams finishing with 16 points and 14 dimes. This bucket tying things in the third quarter.

And they would exchange the lead until overtime. That’s when the Nets took over, and pick-up a 96-89 win. A new rivalry, certainly borne on this night in Brooklyn.
