Lewis colses with consecutive birdies

08-06-2013 10:24 BJT

It was a long Sunday in St. Andrew’s Scotland, with the third and fourth rounds of the Women’s British Open stuffed into one day for most of the players.

The third round was suspended due to howling winds, and the conditions weren’t ideal in the final round either, but American Stacy Lewis remained patient enough to claim the second major title of her career.

The weather vane getting a workout at the Old Course, but that didn’t stop the crowds from streaming into the "Birthplace of Golf."

Park Inbee finishes strong with a par putt at 18, knowing her dream of winning a fourth straight major was done, she winds up in joint 42nd place, at six-over-par.

Her tough weekend left the door wide open for Lewis, the reigning LPGA Player of the Year, this is her second shot at 17, and it’s a beauty, as the ball keeps bouncing and rolling towards the flag.

The final resting spot sets her up for a birdie, as she looks for some seperation from the rest of the field at the Road Hole, and Lewis would follow up by sinking the putt.

She then has a chance for another birdie on the 18th green, and this one’s gonna drop in as well, making it back-to-back circles on the scorecard. And the fourth major championship of the year, is all hers.
