08-06-2013 10:25 BJT

Badminton great Lin Dan emerged from nearly a year on the sidelines to defend his world title in Guangzhou.

Since winning the Olympic gold in London last year, Lin has barely set foot on court, an absence which has seen his ranking plummet to 100 and the four-time world champion, was handed a controversial wildcard for this event.

But he was certainly worth it in the first match as he systematically took apart American Sattawat Pong-nair-at, no real signs of rust so fast around the court.

He dropped only six points in the first game this effort by Pong-nair-at drifts into the tramline, that was teh first game and Lin dropped only nine points, here in the in the second, this was the match point easy does it. Much to the enjoyment of the Guangzhou crowd.
