The ATP World Tour Finals got underway on Monday in London. The event, bringing together the top 8 from the 2013 season and group play began with Switzerland's Stanislas Wawrinka taking on the Czech Republich’s Tomas Berdych.

The Swiss right-hander had beaten his opponent twice this year in tournament play - in Madrid and at the US Open. And he broke serve in the sixth game in the opening set and then took a 4-2 lead.

Wawrinka duly closed it out 6-3, the seventh seed for the event off to a solid start.

Berdych raised his game in the second set, but couldn't force a break of serve of his own. It eventually went to a tiebreak..and there the Czech number 6 breezed through seven-love to level the match.

In the decider, Wawrinka would retake control with a critical break in the fourth game to go 3-1 up and kept Berdych at bay to serve out for a 6-3, 6-7, 6-3 win.
