NHL: Voracek scores twice in Philadelphia win

12-19-2013 09:07 BJT

The Philadelphia Flyers, now under Craig Ber-oob-ay are starting to turn their year around. Philly could even get back to the five-hundred mark for the first time all year with a win over Washington.

We were scoreless after one, so we head to the second period and the Capitals on the powerplay. And they capitalize, Alex Ovechkin backhanding home a loose puck, his league-leading 28th goal of the year makes it 1-nothing.

Later in the period and tied at 2, when things get out of control. Washington’s Tom Wilson absolutely obliterates Philadelphia’s Brayden Schenn, who goes crashing hard into the end boards.

His flyers teammates take exception and then there’s a huge brawl. Schenn is hurt and would have to leave the game, while the players on the ice continue to scrap.

Wilson got a major penalty for charging so Washington would be short-handed for five minutes. And with the extra man Philadelphia would take advantage first Mark Streit fires a puck through a crowd that gets past Braden Holtby. 3-2 Philly.

And a couple minutes later on the same powerplay Jacob Vorachek gets his second goal of the game. The Flyers go on to down the Capitals 5-2

In other action, San Jose was able to double up St. Louis. The Stanley Cup champs from Chicago skated past Nashville. And Minnesota needed a shoot-out to put an end to Vancouver’s 8-game winning streak.

Also, both Alberta teams were shutout, as Los Angeles and Boston blanked Edmonton and Calgary. While Tampa needed a shootout to topple the New York Islanders.
