Video: Interview Yu Zhengsheng Part 7- How do you see Expo as a platform in which the world can get to know China better?

08-10-2010 15:17 BJT

Q7:This is extremely important because you look into the world today, there are many conflict, not just the headlines when US and China might have differences, but we look at most of the continents, there are local differences that are very severe that amount to people dying orsuffering in many respects because of local activities. And in this environment, the role of China, in recent years, has become increasingly important. So that every issue of significance in the world, China is involved in. But some people in the west are concerned about this, they talk about China threat. How do you think the Expo as a platform in which the world can get to know China better, and also China can get to know the world?

A: More than 200 countries and international organizations are participating in the Expo. There will be 60 to 70 million visitors. Most will be Chinese. The foreign pavilions will express their unique understanding of the " Better City, Better Life" theme. There will be different interpretations. This reflects cultural differences. We estimate there will be several million foreign visitors. Some have visited China before, others not. They will come to Shanghai to visit Expo and they may visit other places, too. They will gain a better understanding of China. Misunderstanding of China will be reduced. Communication will cultiate mutual trust.
