August: Three renodeling projects on the Potala Palace, the Norbulingka and Sakaya monasteries, were completed costing 380 million RMB.
Between August and October:The musical " Charming Tibet" was performed on a national festival stage to mark the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People´s Republic of China.
March: While Beijing held a large-scale exhibition, "50th Anniversary of the Democratic Rreform of Tibet", Lhasa held a festival "Songs by Emancipanted Serfs". A stage drama "Forbidden to be Born" was also restaged.
Februrary: The State Council approved a 15.5 billion RMB project forthe Protection and Construction of the Ecological Safety Screen in Tibet.
March: The Autonomous Region of Tibet formally announced that its most important infrastructure for the future would be ecologically-centred.
December 23rd: The Environmental Protection Office of the Tibet Autonomous Region was established, making a mile stone inthe economic and social development of Tibet.
April: A ceremony took place in Jokhng Monastery for those applying for the highest degree among Doctors and Divinity. This was the most impressive ceremony held in a monastery of the Gelugpa Seet of Tibetan Buddhism in Tibet
July 25th: The 11th Panchen Erdeni Qoigyi Gyibo was initiated into the senior stage of monkhood in Tashilhunpo Monastery. Seventy -nine representatives from 39 major monasteries of the five sects of Tibetan Buddhism in Tibet attended the ceremony.
Novermber 9th: Tibeatn believers celebrated the Descension Day, their annual traditional religious festival.
