Beijing, Jing for short, is the nation's political, economic, cultural and educational center as well as China's most important center for international trade and communications.

It has been the heart and soul of politics and society throughout its long history and consequently there is an unparalleled wealth of discovery to delight and intrigue travelers as they explore Beijing''s ancient past and enjoy its exciting modern development. Shichahai is a majestic lake situated in downtown Beijing. For centuries it has provided local residents with a sanctuary from the hustle and bustle of the day.

Beijing's towers are, of course, the biggest in China. The Drum Tower, which stands just north of the Bell Tower, was erected in 1272 AD during the Yuan Dynasty and rebuilt in 1420 by the Ming Dynasty, finally being refurbished in 1800 during the reign of the Qing. If you would like to have a glimpse into Beijing''Yesterday, you are highly recommended to have a short adventure trip to the Hutongs.

You may explore the narrow and curved alleys on foot, by pedicab or by bike. Houhai is Beijing''s newly developed old town of funky nightlife full of small bars and pubs with character. With the glow of lights over the lake Houhai takes on an unreal feeling. Most cafes and restaurants are individually owned and have their own unique style and service.
