The final of the variety show Live My Life on CCTV-1 drew its curtain in the evening on July 7. By showing their highly-difficult dancing technique, Liu Xuan, once a world gym champion, and Han Yibo, her dancing partner, were appraised by the majority of the judges, though Fang Jun, one of the judges, was suspicious of their dancing as acrobatics. They finally defeated their rivals, Liao Zhi and Yang Zhigang, and took the championship of the first season of the show. What about the viewing rate of the first season of the show? And what else should be done for a better second season? Sohu.com inputs its efforts in collecting data and analyzing its result and problems on this regard.
Viewing Rate: Hit a New High of Internet Demand Clicking among Dancing Shows Nationwide
Live My Life was first shown on CCTV-1 from April 14 and concluded on July 7. Data from the entertainment channel of Sohu.com show that Live My Life achieved wonderfully just when it was first staged, a viewing rate of 2.14% in the 32 cities nationwide, a viewing rate champion among the variety shows in the very evening. Lu Wei, the director of promotion of the show said that this show is the one of the highest viewing rate among all the shows produced by Star TV.
The second part of the show continued to have a viewing rate of 2.14% in the 32 cities nationwide and be the highest of its kind. The viewing rate rose to 2.25 on June 16; and it hit a new record high, 2.32%, on June 23.
The show brought very high flow to all kinds of video about the Live My Life, even higher than that of Super Boy’s Voice in a period.
There are rivals of Live My Life, and they are So You Think You Can Dance on Dragon TV and Amazing Dance on Hunan TV. The former had 12 parts and had judges including Yang Liping, Chen Xiaochun, Fang Jun and Jin Xing. With popularity accumulated previously, it ranks the top three in terms of the viewing rate on CSM46. The latter, hosted by Yang Lele and judged by Liu Zhen, dancer from Taiwan and Li Rui, host from Hunan TV, keeps a viewing rate between 0.5 and 0.7. Its viewing rate seems unstable as it once lagged out of the top 10 and also strode to top 3.
So comparing with these two dancing shows, Live My Life surpasses both. It is surly very close to the platform it stands on as the primary time on CCTV-1 ensures its high viewing rate, and it is also a costly produced show presented by a great number of stars.
Result of Quality Inspection – Mixed Content with Full Presence of Stars
After Live My Life started its showing, the insiders assessed it the upgraded version of the sum of So You Think You Can Dance, The Voice of China and Chinese Dream. During the one and a half hour first show, audience can not only see dancing of stars and civilians in pairs, but also hear singing of the learners. It is also mixed with the presence of Ms. Yang Liping, the judge in So You Think You Can Dance, and Mr. Zhou Libo, ambassador of Chinese Dream.
Lu Wei, the director of promotion of the show, confessed when he was interviewed that such mixing is made in purpose, and that “other local satellite TVs would not be able to copy the other TVs’ shows as a shadow while CCTV is quite different as it can integrate the resources and absorb the advantages from other programs. Such mixing of shows would perhaps be a trend of variety shows on CCTV in the future.
The all star presence is a key propeller of the rising viewing rate of this show. These stars include the very popular host, Li Yong, “Dream Ambassador”, Zhou Libo, Judges, Yang Liping, Huang Doudou and Fang Jun, celebrities as Sa Beining, Francis Ng Chun Yu, Rainie Yang, Wang Ji, Liu Xuan, Adam Cheng, Wang Lin, Chen Shu, ZhishangLihe, Joey Yung as well as learners of The Voice of China, Wu Mochou, Li Daimo, Ping An, Liu Yue and etc. All are well-known enough to gain popularity for the show. It is a good show for the stars themselves. For example, while showing off his good sense of humor, Sa Beining mocked up with Huang Doudou and Zhou Libo and with himself about his physical appearance.
All such success we have discussed about Live My Life doesn’t mean it is perfect. It also needs improve. The trying and practice of type mixing are eye-catching but also appear problems. During the very short 6-minute time, the civilian dancers have to finish their dancing, dream and life story sharing as well as the involvement of following singer, judge, Zhou Libo and the host, too many shifts of screens and elements covered. This results in a limited performance of each of these people. (from Entertainment Channel of Sohu.com)
