Climate change Portraits: Mitchell F. Stanley

Mitchell F. Stanley has served as President and a Trustee of The National Center for Sustainable Development (NCSD) in Washington, DC since 2001.

Previously, he was Chairman of the Board of WebBank Corporation the first federally insured financial institution established using the Internet as a loan production platform for making federally guaranteed small business and rural development loans on a national basis.

For three years previously to his investment group’s acquisition of WebBank; Mr. Stanley work for a credit subsidiary of Ford Motor Corporation located in Dallas, Texas as a vice president for business development. From 1990 – 1993 Mr. Stanley served as Deputy Administrator of the US Small Business Administration in Washington, DC in charge of the agency’s finance, investment and procurement assistance programs.

Prior to joining SBA, he served as Assistant Executive Director of the FSLIC under the Federal Home Loan Bank Board, supervising staff operations, failed institutions resolutions and liquidity issues.

He had previously served as Chief of Staff to the US Secretary of Commerce Malcolm Baldrige organizing and leading the first US Presidential Trade Mission to China in 1985. From 1981-1983 Mr. Stanley was a member of President Reagan’s West Wing staff at the White House. Previously, he was an economic analyst in the US Department of State’s Fuels and Energy Office after graduating from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service in 1977.
