World Book and Copyright Day, also known as International Day of the Book or World Book Days, is a yearly event on April 23, organized by UNESCO to promote reading, publishing and copyright. This year's government work report, which Chinese Premier Li Keqiang delivered to national lawmakers on March 5, said China will "ensure that more outstanding works of literature and art are created for the people to enjoy, and encourage a love of reading in all our people, build a learning society, and improve the overall caliber of the population."

Happy Birthday to William Shakespeare

It is on this date in 1616 that Cervantes, Shakespeare and Inca Garcilaso de la Vega all died. It is also the date of birth or death of other prominent authors, such as Maurice Druon, Haldor K.Laxness, Vladimir Nabokov, Josep Pla and Manuel Mejía Vallejo.

Born in 1564 and died in 1616, William Shakespeare is definitely world´s pre-eminent dramatist leaving a legacy of 38 plays, 154 sonnets and many poems. His plays remain highly popular today and are constantly studied, performed, and reinterpreted in various languages in the world.
